MJG - I would definitely steal that hippo - but well, I lack the balls and strength to do so. It would make a swell buddy for Naoki though.

As for doing something with the site - you're right maybe I should just bring builders in and see what transpires. It's prime real estate!

I don't understand- why do they leave these sites like this, just lying there so useless and empty? Why don't they knock it down, or reclaim the land or something? Why don't you do something with this land, Scott- perhaps you could turn it into a haikyo hotel or re-open it as an attraction park- I'm sure you could get lots of visitors. I just don't understand how they could let so much good stuff go to waste... Why does nobody at least steal that hippo?

Sigh...

MJG - Thanks! Better do your visit - gotta get on the right side of the gods for 2009!

George - Thanks! They are great little escapes aren't they. On those days I'm fed up with all the craziness of Tokyo - I should learn to make a pit stop and revive my soul a bit.

Scott,
Very nice, the music is very much in the spirit of the setting. Brings back some great memories of our visit to Erin and Mish. Beautiful, simple, peaceful, unique temples in the most unexpected places. Beautiful young man, oblivious to it all.

I just love the surfing one. No such thing as too much surf! Almost made me think of the way Smurfs talk.

PS In case you care, my lover is also doing well. And she's a non-smorker I will have you know.

Jason - Actually, we went mid afternoon on the 1st. As you can see - it wasn't busy at all - I guess it was just a local temple so not like one of the big name ones in Kyoto.

90-minutes to ring a bell? Ridiculous!

That's the most serious Hatsumoude video I've ever seen.

I guess you guys went really early in the morning or that shrine is very local?

Aya and I had to wait over 90-minutes to ring a bell at a shrine we went to in Kyoto....didn't know it would be that long, and once you've waited an hour, might as well stick it out.
