Stuff related to the great sport of Disc Golf!

Check out the mad results from MADD MACQ’S GOLF 005. I’m a disgrace! Well, just inexperienced in disc golf - as I half expected. Those guys I played with a week or so ago kick ass. I thought I could throw a disc, but these guys made me look like a child! They were easily throwing a good 30 meters or so beyond my drives. Unbelievable. Some of them have been playing for more than 10 years (one guy even 20 years!). I felt totally schooled the whole day, although I did enjoy it. Bottom line - I’ve got got plenty of room for improvement! Not such a bad thing I suppose. I wouldn’t want to start at the top and have no where to go.

Spent a nice weekend back in Sydney, but now I’m in Melbourne yet again all week! Fortunately, this week’s off to a much better start than last week. Clean, spacious hotel room - and constant Internet access with my new wireless broadband account. I even took in a movie tonight after work. I’m starting to get the hang of this life on the road stuff…

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get on a Friday afternoon when you know you’ve got the whole weekend ahead of you. TGIF indeed. So what do we have lined up for this weekend? Weather permitting, tomorrow we will be heading to Coogee and Bondi Beach to do a little sightseeing, as per Andy’s recommendations. I’m praying for nice weather - today’s been rainy off and on. Sunday I’ve got some disc golf action lined up at MacQuarie University. There’s a mini tournament called MADD MACQ’S GOLF 005 happening which I’m itching to take part in. At last - my first taste of disc sports down under. I may even be playing some pickup Ultimate with a group in the western part of town late in the afternoon, should I have enough energy.

As for next week - no rest for the wicked. It’ll be another week on the road, back in Melbourne Monday to Friday. You’d think I’d know Melbourne pretty well by now. Truth is, I only know about 5 blocks of it, all in the downtown area. It’s a nice city from what I can tell. I’m hoping I’ll be able to explore it a bit more next week.

I want to be these guys. Not much in the way of disc golf here in Sydney though, but there is one group I’m trying to hook up with that plays regularly. The only course in town is only set up temporarily whenever they use it. This country has a ways to go before disc golf catches on with the masses. Perhaps that should be one of my goals during my time here…

I’ve been getting more and more seriously into Disc Golf lately. It’s a great sport, if you’ve never tried it or even heard of it for that matter. Ottawa’s fortunate enough to have a big community of disc sport lovers. We’ve got a number of courses within the city and even a store downtown. In fact, there’s a course just a couple minutes drive from my office. Lately, Andy, Adam & I along with random other co-workers have been playing the course almost every lunch hour. It’s a great break in the middle of the day and satisfies our competitive urges. I’ve got a couple of sets of disc golf discs now, but I must say - I need to learn the basics. I’m sure my technique is totally wrong, along with my understanding of the rules of the sport. I should join in on one of the local league nights here and get some pointers.
