Naoki Reviews: Pigeon’s Steamed Cake (レンジで蒸しパン)
Posted by scott in Buddies, Food, Tokyo, VideosWith Naoki’s first birthday just around the corner, I figured he best be prepared for the awesomeness that is birthday cake!
Fortunately Pigeon has a line of instant Steamed Cakes for babies that you cook in your microwave. How easy is that! It’s very easy actually…

They’re called “Renji de Mushipan” (レンジで蒸しパン) which roughly translates into “Microwaveable Steamed Bread” – or in this case… cake. Pigeon Renji de Mushipan is really an instant bread mix that requires only a tablespoon of milk or water and 50 seconds in the microwave to produce a steamed cake. It’s lightly sweetened, fortified with calcium and contains no colourings or preservatives… so for cake – it’s as healthy as it gets!
In total – there are five Japanese baby oriented flavours:
- Pumpkin and Carrot
- Spinach and Cheese
- Banana Milk
- Strawberry Milk
- Black Sesame and Seaweed
We opted for Spinach and Cheese – as it looked the most appetizing. (Seriously, would anyone really want to eat Seaweed cake?? I guess Japanese babies do…)
Will Naoki like Pigeon’s Steamed Cake? Or is he destined to turn his nose up at his birthday cake?

Happy Birthday to Naoki!! My how time has flown by!!
What a big boy he is now.
You had better do some more traveling if you want to keep ahead of W&P in the number of countries geocached, they are both very competitive and that sounds too much like a challenge that they may wish to rise towards.
Keep up the great blogs.
Thanks George! The birthday is still a month off – think of this as the dry run on the cake eating ceremony!
Definitely will have to get in another country or two in my stats… fortunately we have a trip to Singapore planned at the end of the month! Stay tuned…
What is the verdict Scott? What flavor will it be for the “real” cake???? I think by the looks of it, Naoki will like all.
ps Yes, we are competitive but fill your boots.
Gram – we’re thinking white – purely based on Naoki liking most things yellow… although chocolate does make it a bit more dramatic!
Can’t believe my grandson is eating spinach cake, where are the chocolate varieties? Man, it is time he experienced the only true food that covers all the food groups!!
Love to my Naokster!
